» Chrome – The New Google Browser

September 9th, 2008 Sammy Russo

Google announced the Beta Release of the their latest tool.. a new web browser called Chrome. So Google the search giant enters the browser business. Being the Google power user that I am, I of course downloaded a copy and have been playing with it for several days. I haven’t messed with many settings.. pretty much been using it out of the box for a while. I also haven’t looked whether or not it is going to allow additional toolbar widgets and such.

» What Do You Blog About?

August 3rd, 2008 Sammy Russo

About a month ago a colleague of mine pinged me one day.. asking if I had a few minutes to chat about some work related topics. I said sure.. I just finished blogging and was about to get started with my work day. In dismay.. he asks me “what do you blog about”?

So what do I blog about?

Blogging and Design
Well, if you follow the blog here on Search Friendly Web Design, you can tell that I blog about Wordpress, blogging and blog tuning. I also post various other web tips and resources as I stumble upon things… like my trial and error escapades with Google Analytics goal conversions. Sometimes I blog about things that I come across or address on the Wordpress Support Forum like the Fix for Google Webmaster Tools Excluded by Robots.

Green Living
My wife and I have another blog called Lite Green Living that we work on together. Here we blog about green living, natural family parenting, environmental issues and more. For the most part Lite Green Living is Carrie’s blog.. It’s cool, she is particular about the type of content that is published and how it’s presented. We work well over there because I often have more time write so I write and so goes through and editorializes my content, so essentially we tag team it.

Life
On my personal blog.. I blog about life, politics, I share my favorite joke / chain mails that friends and family forward to me and various random thoughts. It’s place to ramble on or gripe about anything I want.. check out Sammy Russo DOT Com.

Real Estate
Just after we bought our house I started to take a little bit of interest in the real estate market so I decided to start a small information real estate website which I recently converted into a blog & web resource. On Tehachapi Realtors I blog mostly about current real estate news. Between my regular job and blogging about blogging and green living, my real estate blog often takes a back seat.

So what do you blog about?

» Follow up to Goal Conversions in Google Analytics

June 27th, 2008 Sammy Russo

A few weeks back I posted an article highlighting what I thought was the solution to my Google Analytics goal conversion tracking dilemma. I later posted a comment noting that the solution did not work.

To catch you up to speed, I have a client who needs to track more than the alloted 4 conversion goals allowed in a Google Analytics profile. According to Google Help docs, to track more conversions you’re supposed to set up additional profiles.

» Goal Conversions in Google Analytics

June 11th, 2008 Sammy Russo

One of my clients decided that we they needed to start tracking certain goals or conversions on the website via Google Analytics. So I set up the the allotted conversion goals / funnels, but I needed more.

According to Google Analytics documentation or Help Center, they say that if you need to more than four goal conversions… set up additional profiles. So I did.. I took the snippet of java script code (we’re using the Legacy Tracking Code – urchin.js) and pasted it along side the other script. I waited a couple of days and noticed that the second profile wasn’t collecting data.

» GoDaddy Domains

Go Daddy $1.99 Domains 125x125
I buy all my domain names at GoDaddy.com. Why? Because they have the lowest prices on the internet for domain purchases, transfers and renewals. It just seems silly to me to buy them any where else. They also give you complete DNS control.

The reason I’m posting this is because I everyday I come across folks who have now idea about GoDaddy and their extremely affordable domain prices..

In my tenure as webmaster, web designer and search engine marketer I’ve had the opportunity to work with a lot of different hosting companies. In most cases it’s been in a share hosting environment, but I’ve had a chance to work with a couple of dedicated and VPS (virtual private servers) accounts as well. What follows is my top 4 picks for website hosting.
